On January 17, President Obama spoke at the Justice Department about changes in the technology that we use for national security purposes, and what these technologies mean for our privacy broadly. He called on the administration to conduct a broad 90-day review of big data and privacy: how these technologies affect the way we live and the way we work – and how big data is being used by universities, the private sector, and the government. Jim Ahrens assisted Dimitri Kusnezov, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy, to prepare DOE’s briefing for the review. The briefing included describing the relationship between big data and exascale. An article entitled, ‘The Big Data-High Performance Computing Convergence’ is in submission to Innovations magazine on this topic, 2014.
